Playwrights Realm Writing Fellows
Playwrights Realm offers an annual writer’s fellowship for emerging playwrights. All forms of theatre scripts are accepted from plays from a rough draft to a production-ready state through a process of monthly review and revision in a challenging, motivating environment. Fellows also get valuable input from their talented co-fellows and established theatre professionals in monthly meetings. The experience is designed to widen anartist’s network of resources and establish a foothold in New York theater.Finalists for the program will be interviewed in the spring and final selections will be announced in the summer.

The Soho Rep Writer/Director Lab was founded in 1998 to explore and develop the work of a new generation of theater artists and to foster new collaborations between writers and directors in the beginning stages of the creative process. Writers and directors must apply separately. At the start of the cycle, each writer and director invited to join the Lab are matched with one another.

Plays will be judged on content, dialogue, ingenuity, use of theme, and abilityto be staged. Plays with special effects, lighting or elaborate sets can not be produced. Previous years’ winning plays came from throughout Pennsylvania, theMid-Atlantic area, and from across the United States and Canada. The authorswill maintain all literary rights to their own material. All winning plays will be presented on the LCT stage in the summer.

All applicants must be residents of New York or the surrounding metropolitan area for the time of their fellowship. Applicants must also be prepared to meet on alternate Monday evenings of every month, and to make themselves available, if possible, to participate in observerships, assistantships, etc. when those opportunities arise.

The Pittsburgh New Works Festival is now accepting one-act plays that have never before been produced. Twelve one-act plays will be selected to be performed as mainstage productions for the festival’s 22nd season, which begins in September. An additional six will be selected for staged readings, to be performed the last two Sundays of August. The plays are produced by 18 theatre companies from all over the Pittsburgh region.
