Calling all Playwrights & Monolog writers

0 November 17, 2009 in Call for plays by Emerging Playwright
developing/directing a one-woman show and I'm looking for plawrights to contribute content. The one woman is a very funny Actress/Stand-up comic. Here are the details:

Is it crowded in here, or is it just me? Is a one-woman show consisting of 5 characters. All of these characters will be written by different playwrights and eventually will be given a song written by different lyricists and composers.

The monologs for each character should be between 5 & 15 minutes in length. However, 10 minutes would be ideal. This piece is a comedy, so the monologs should be funny. That doesn't mean that they shouldn't have serious moments that cut through the humor, actually, that is encouraged.

Below is a brief description of each character, who they are, where they are, their story and a link to another character in the piece. The stories are jumping off points. Continue to create and build these characters from there. However, don't change the who, location or link. You'll notice that there is a link to another character. Only reference the link that is listed with your character. Even though Rita is referenced in Hindi's monolog, she should only reference Finley, not Hindi.

Compensation: All of the playwrights will evenly split the playwriting royalties based on the venue where the piece is being performed. Prior to first production, playwrights who have pieces chosen for workshop will be paid a $25 stipend. Playwrights may be required to make up to two (2) rewrites for no additional compensation prior to selection.
First Draft Submissions need to be received prior to December 1st. Feel free to submit as many pieces as you'd like. Send questions, comments or submissions to IsItCrowdedInHere@gmail.com.

0 November 5, 2009 in Call for plays by Emerging Playwright

Submission Window: September 1st - November 30th, 2009.

Open Submission Process

The Playwrights Foundation’s programs are open to all playwrights writing in English and living in North America. The staff and a dedicated committee of Bay Area theater professionals carefully review each play, write in depth evaluations and meet regularly to share their thoughts. Each play submitted is directly considered for the Bay Area Playwrights Festival, and it is primarily through this open submission process that we get to know the work of writers whom we invite to participate in all of our development programs: ROUGH Reading Series, INKubator Project, Producing Partnership and Commissioning Program, and Resident Playwrights Initiative Through this process we seek to gain a depth of familiarity with the work of a large range of playwrights, and expose those writers to our advisory committee and creative partners. Special attention is given to Bay Area writers, emerging writers, and writers of color.

There is a $20 submission fee, put toward the costs associated with the selection process. Please submit your fee in the form of check or money order made out to PLAYWRIGHTS FOUNDATION. If the submission fee poses a severe financial hardship, please call the office to discuss at (415) 626-2176
