Fourth Annual ANT Fest
Are you ready to expose yourself to New York City? We’re now accepting submissions for our fourth annual ANT Fest, a five-week festival of all new talent from October 17 to November 19 showcasing fresh material from New York’s most exciting emerging artists.
Ars Nova is on the prowl for talented artists who see the future of live entertainment and want the chance to show off their skills. We’re interested in edgy, offbeat, charged performances that tell a story, make us laugh, showcase musicians with a vibrant new sound, or blur the boundaries between theater, music and comedy. If it can be performed live on stage, we’re interested!
Thirty unique submissions will each be given a night to perform in Ars Nova’s intimate 99-seat theater and the opportunity to be a part of artist-driven parties and events throughout the festival.
Think you’ve got the skills?
For application information, please visit http://arsnovanyc.com/antfsubmissions where you will find the application form and other requirements. Please refer to the Additional Information section on the application form for further important Fest logistics and details.
Applications must be postmarked by June 6.
Artists chosen for the festival will be notified by September 6.
terraNOVA Collective 2011 Groundbreakers Playwrights Program
terraNOVA Collective is accepting submissions for 2011 Groundbreakers Playwrights Program, a developmental play writing lab that offers 5 playwrights a unique opportunity to develop their plays over a 4-month period into performance-ready work.
We welcome submissions of new plays and solo shows in various stages of development that will benefit from group feedback and further terraNOVA Collective's artistic mission of creating theatrical, innovative, and socially relevant new work for the stage. From August to December 2011, each playwright brings in her or his play three times for a round-table reading with professional actors, receiving feedback from other Groundbreakers members, special guests, and the artistic staff of terraNOVA Collective.
We are especially interested in writers who, in addition to working on their own project, have an interest in actively participating in a writer’s group and giving other writers in the group feedback. Application, instructions and program requirements at http://www.terranovacollective.org/Groundbreakers.php
Postmark Deadline: Monday, June 6, 2011.

8Minute Musicals is seeking writers and composers for a two week workshop
8Minute Musicals is seeking writers and composers for a two week workshop that will culminate in the performance of 8 new 8 minute musicals. We are interested in working with artists who can bring a fresh approach to this genre. If you’re an experienced musical theatre writer, or even if you are a playwright or poet or pop songwriter or whatever who has never written a musical, but think it could be fun to try, we want to hear from you. For more info on 8Minute Musicals, visit www.8minutemusicals.org
We seek artists with a high level of craft as writers or composers who are interested in collaboration and willing to dive into the creative process with a sense of abandon. That means we are looking for people who want to play. And are not scared of deadlines.
TO APPLY, PLEASE INCLUDE THE FOLLOWING: We accept electronic applications only.
1) Artist Statement: A paragraph about why you would like to participate. Please indicate if you’re applying to be a writer or composer.
2) Resume: including your name, mailing address, and phone number(s).
3) A list of potential scheduling conflicts (see sample schedule on our website www.8minutemusicals.org)
4) Work Sample Description: What’s in your work sample and why you decided to submit it.
5) Work Sample (see details below). Audio files must be submitted as mp3s; script excerpts, lyric sheets, and scores must be submitted as PDF (preferred) or DOC files.
COMPOSER WORK SAMPLE: Send us 2 to 4 mp3s of contrasting selections (less than 15 minutes combined; it’s fine if they are not all from the same show or project). Please also send PDFs files of scores or lead sheets if you have them, and lyric sheets for all selections. It’s okay if you have no previous experience in musical theatre, but if you have written any vocal music, we’d love to hear that, and anything that really showcases your voice as a composer.
WRITER WORK SAMPLE: Send us the first 15 pages of a full-length musical theatre piece or play, OR an 8-10 minute play(s). If possible, send lyric sheets for 2 songs you’ve written. Mp3s of the songs are very helpful, but not required. If you're a playwright/bookwriter and not a lyricist, that's fine, please make note of it in your cover email.
DO YOU ALSO WRITE LYRICS? If you often wear more than one hat when you write, that’s fine. Just tell us that in the email accompanying your submission. But please note that we sometimes ask composer/lyricists to explore letting their writing partner write the lyrics, or bookwriter/lyricists to try co-writing lyrics with a composer (for example). We’ll handle it all on a case-by-case basis. Let us know your thoughts about this in your cover email.
